CERTIFICATIONS - ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSION

The certifications and external acknowledgements received by Copel ratify the transparency and commitment to the best environmental management practices, ensuring reliability and safety in the services provided to society, as well as attesting to the integrity and diligence before shareholders, investors, regulatory agencies, local communities and society in general.

GHG Protocol

The “Gold Seal” is awarded to companies that demonstrate compliance with all transparency criteria in the publication of their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, as well as recognizing the Company’s efforts towards sustainable development and the commitment of senior management to establish emissions targets in favor of sustainability, ratified in Copel’s Carbon Neutrality Plan.

The Seal is the highest level of certification of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, the main tool used in the country to understand, quantify and manage an organization’s greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

The tool for quantifying Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions was developed in the United States in 1998. In Brazil it was implemented as of 2008 by the Center for Sustainability Studies of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (GVces) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, and the GHG Protocol is responsible for developing the calculation methodology for emissions estimates in Brazil.

Since the GHG Protocol methodology was brought to the country, Copel uses it to prepare its annual inventory of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Since 2012, the inventory has been verified by an independent company, certified by Inmetro, and for the ninth time Copel has received the certification.

The methodology establishes international standards for measuring greenhouse gas emissions and for preparing and publishing inventories of this nature. The inventory is the main instrument for the management of greenhouse gas emissions, being fundamental for decision-making on actions related to combating global warming and climate change.

Selo Clima Paraná

Copel understands that it must play a leading role in the state and, for this reason, it annually publishes its greenhouse gas emissions in the Paraná public registry, which will possibly stimulate other companies to also feel invited to publish. In recognition for voluntarily disclosing its information, the Secretariat of Sustainable Development and Tourism granted Copel the Paraná Climate Seal.
