Environmental Dimension

The awards and external recognition received by Copel ratify the transparency and commitment to the best environmental management practices, ensuring reliability and safety in the services provided to society, as well as attesting to the integrity and diligence towards shareholders, investors, regulatory bodies, local communities and society in general.

GHG Protocol

The “Gold Seal” is awarded to companies that demonstrate compliance with all transparency criteria in publishing their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, as well as recognizing the Company’s efforts towards sustainable development and the commitment of senior management with the establishment of emissions targets in favor of sustainability, ratified in Copel’s Carbon Neutrality Plan.

The Seal is the highest level of certification of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, the main tool used in the country to understand, quantify and manage an organization’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The tool to quantify Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions was developed in the United States in 1998. In Brazil it was implemented from 2008 onwards by the Center for Sustainability Studies at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (GVces) in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment , and the GHG Protocol is responsible for developing the calculation methodology for estimating emissions in Brazil.

Since the GHG Protocol methodology was brought to the country, Copel has been using it to prepare its annual inventory of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. From 2012 onwards, the inventory began to be verified by an independent company, certified by Inmetro and for the ninth time Copel received certification.

The methodology establishes international standards for measuring greenhouse gas emissions and for preparing and publishing inventories of this nature. The inventory is the main instrument for managing greenhouse gas emissions, and is fundamental for decision-making on actions related to combating global warming and climate change.

Paraná Climate Seal

Copel understands that it must play a leading role in environmental issues and, to this end, annually publishes its greenhouse gas emissions in the public register of Paraná, which will possibly encourage other companies to also feel invited to publish. In recognition for voluntarily disclosing its information, the Secretariat of Sustainable Development and Tourism awarded Copel the Paraná Climate Seal.
