
The Social Communication and Community Relations Program is a measure included in the environmental control actions of Copel GeT’s projects, both in the implementation and operation phases, and aims to establish a channel for information and relations with the public in the respective areas of influence.
Its premise is to act from a perspective of dialogical exchange that allows the entrepreneur to present and transmit information, but also to understand the demands and wishes of the communities within the area of influence of its projects and to take the appropriate action. Its scope is to provide information on the actions practiced by the company, issues related to safe coexistence with generation and transmission facilities, as well as to resolve and answer questions from the population related to the operation of Copel GeT’s assets.
Along these lines, dialog with the local communities that receive and live with the company’s projects is not only necessary for safe coexistence, it also guarantees adequate information and allows society to participate to some extent in the project under development, by incorporating their needs and expectations into the company’s decision-making processes.
The Social Communication and Community Relations Program has the following central objectives:
- Promote transparent, regular and structured dialog with stakeholders, taking into account their demands, priorities and expectations;
- Welcoming and resolving any doubts, criticisms and questions that the population may have regarding the projects under implementation and operation;
- Broadening the dissemination of the company’s communication channels and increasing awareness of these channels as instruments for serving the population with information, clarifying doubts, registering complaints, denunciations, compliments and suggestions;
- Informing the population about the restrictions and precautions that should be adopted in safety areas in order to prevent accidents and establish a safe coexistence with Copel’s facilities;
- Create a database with basic information on the families living in the vicinity of the Company’s projects;
- Comply with the legal requirements and environmental licensing requirements of the projects.
In addition, Copel also welcomes the community to its facilities, by scheduling visits to the plants and spaces maintained with a focus on educational activities, such as the Energy Space.
Periodic campaigns
Campaigns are also carried out to inform the population about how to care for a safe relationship with the electricity grid, including broadcasting radio spots, distributing information material (Programa Boa Vizinhança GET), publicizing press releases and events.
Guidelines
All community relationship actions follow the guidelines established for the Copel group in the Communication Policy.
The management of the impacts generated by CopelGeT in the communities is based on the following policies and guidelines:
- Sustainability Policy, which establishes the parameters to be followed by its board, staff and partners in decision-making, respect for stakeholders and broad promotion of ethics and respect for diversity in the conduct of its business;
- National Environmental Policy;
- Constraints of the environmental licensing processes, through compliance with the scope and term of the constraints of the projects;
- Universal human rights precepts.
The results are measured by monitoring the implementation of socio-environmental programs and maintaining the regularity of the environmental licenses necessary for the implementation and operation of the projects. Copel Geração e Transmissão has the concept of sustainability incorporated into its processes and businesses, generating value for the communities surrounding its projects and for society in general.
