Copel Distribution Actions

As means of ratifying the importance of occupational health and safety in Copel Distribuição (Copel DIS), it is imperative to show that in the definition of the Strategic Map, based on the Balanced Scorecard – BSC methodology, it is contained, in the Learning and Growth Aspect, the consolidation of the culture of safety, health and quality of life as means of being aligned to the values of the Company and with the expectations of stakeholders.

It is worth noting, moreover, that Copel DIS has made, in an innovative fashion, the representation of its strategic map through a figure, also called Culture Map, as means of simplifying its strategy for people to be able to understand and practice the values and principles of the Company. In the Culture Map, Safety is highlighted and defined as a premise of Copel Distribuição, which permeates all other objectives of the Subsidiary.

For ensuring that the entire labor force is aligned to the organizational culture, the strategies and plans of the Company, the Engagement Seal was created for assessing the level of dissemination, commitment and engagement of the areas of Copel DIS. And in this management practice, Occupational Health and Safety is once again the material theme in qualitative and quantitative surveys conducted with employees as a requirement for obtaining the Engagement Seal.

Defining the strategy based on the definition of Safety as a premise and intervention in the culture, based on management practices, are means for reaching the best results in occupational health and safety. It is important to point out that this strategy is in line with the definition of social, economic and environmental
topics that are relevant to the Company as means of meeting the expectations of stakeholders represented by regulatory agencies, employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, the community and, especially, as means of meeting the purposes defined in the mission and vision of Copel.

Copel Distribuição, for carrying out activities associated to significant risk factors and having Occupational Health and Safety as a premise, is guided by NPC 0402 – Occupational Safety and Health Policy, which sets the main guidelines for occupational health and safety.
It is important to establish that the Occupational Health and Safety theme impacts the entire workforce, the company’s own employees and contractors, in driving, participating and directly engaging all leadership of Copel DIS.

Therefore, as means of ensuring that the values of Copel DIS pertaining to the theme of Occupational Health and Safety are permeated by all workforce for promoting the prevention of work-related accidents and preservation of the health of workers are robustly defined, consistent with the various processes that ensure participation and consultation of workers regarding processes that are relevant to occupational health and safety.

Among the systematics used, we may highlight practices already consolidated in the Preserving Life Program (PPV), Occupational health and Safety Management (GSST), Copel Video Monitoring (VMC), Major Accident Analysis Meeting (RAAG), Safety Sectors, Safety Minute, Risk Hunting Program and CIPAs in Action, Safety Months, Safety Godfathers and the Matched Occupational Safety Commission.

Copel Distribuição also has a robust process for promoting participation and consultation of workers regarding processes and communications that are relevant to occupational health and safety. Among the systematics used, we may highlight the following practices, which allow workers’ engagement:

These are divisions of the Internal Accident Prevention Commissions (CIPAS) preferably by Department and/or Divisions, whose attributions are multiplying good safety practices, engaging employees in implementing prevention actions, serving as the liaison between employees and the CIPA, holding SST meetings and Analyzing Near-Accident Incidents.

Weekly meetings held by the workforce for debating information relevant to occupational safety.

The application allows recording Near-Accident Incidents, CIPA minutes, various records, flow of submission and consultations, control of accidents, forms and regulations, sector-based scores and meeting calendar.

Copel Distribuição has work safety as a strategic premise. So reducing its work accident rates is a commitment assumed by all. And since one of the agents that causes accidents is human behavior, since 2019 the company started to develop, through safe behavior workshops, elements for reflection on how each person can behave more safely, including own employees and third parties.

The GSST involves participation of the workforce, whether in the standardization commissions or in the suggestions for process improvement. Its objective is providing the basic guidelines for carrying out activities and warning to the main risks and abnormalities that may arise during performance of the work.

The Body Mass Index Program (BMI) has an Occupational Safety Instruction Manual (MIS) that deals with BMI and weight for the electrician role at Copel Distribuição, with the objective of establishing procedures for controlling and monitoring the body mass index (BMI) body mass and weight of the workforce (own employees and third parties) who perform work as electricians, depending on the established limits (critical indices), to promote safety and health at work and prevent accidents.

The Preserving Life Program (PPV) of Copel Distribuição establishes the supervision, in the field, of the technical and safety procedures, during the execution of the activities of employees and contractors, according to the standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Management area (GSST). The employees also participate in training courses for Field Inspectors that aim to improve the preventive vision in order to identify and block the agents of diseases and work accidents.

COPEL Video Monitoring Process (VMC) of operating teams of Copel Distribuição, based on footage from cameras installed in vehicles with the following objectives: enhancing the mechanisms for preventing accidents; expanding inspections of work safety remotely; allowing analysis of deviations, failure and accidents, promoting effective recommendations; making technical and occupational safety recommendations for improving the activities of employees; use video monitoring for continuously improving procedures and work tools.

For promoting the occupational safety culture and developing performance in the duties of electricians, Copel encourages their participation in the Electricians’ Rodeo, which consisting in gathering teams of electricians and technicians from all regions of the state, in internal stages, the teams of electricians from different utility providers in the country compete against each other, in the national stage, with the basic premise, in the activities involving the competition, of following safety standards, acting with expertise and showing stand-out skills. This is a lucid way of valuing electricians, encouraging integration, improving care with occupational safety and sharing experiences and knowledge.

Implemented internally, the Safety Month is held for each superintendence, where everyone focuses their efforts by intensifying preventive actions and thereby proving Occupational Safety and Health of employees and contractors.

The Safety Trophy, created for the purpose providing and incentive and offering recognition for prevention of accidents, developed by the areas that compose the CIPAS, has the purpose of encouraging actions, in the form of healthy competition, targeting the practice of active prevention, engaging and counting on the participation of the company’s own employees and contractors, causing everyone to engage in safety, health and environmental actions and work as multipliers of these actions.
