SDG Indicators Copel Generation and Transmission
In line with the Company’s sustainability strategy and voluntary commitments, Copel Geração e Transmissão manages the SDG indicators and programs related to ESG practices, based on the global goals of the United Nations (UN) and linked to internal goals.
Copel GeT’s electricity matrix reached 93.84% renewable sources in December 2022, surpassing the national electricity matrix.
– Divestment in non-renewable assets and commitment to a 100% renewable electricity matrix by 2030 (Target 7.2);
– Diversification of the renewable sources matrix, with a focus on wind generation.
Target 7.2 – Brazil: By 2030, maintain a high share of renewable energy in the national energy matrix.
Occupational Health and Safety are fundamental to the company’s strategy, present in the Strategic Reference, strategic objectives, indicators and targets.
– Maintain this standard of “zero fatal accidents”, including own employees and third parties.
To achieve this goal and continuously improve the accident frequency and severity rates, the company is committed to ensuring that 100% of employees with legal training within the established deadlines.
Target 8.3 – Brazil: Promote development with the generation of decent work; formalization; the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises; entrepreneurship and innovation.
Copel GeT is committed to driving innovation through the Inov+GeT Innovation Program.
– Evolution towards an innovative culture; and
– Return on leveraged projects.
Target 9.4 – Brazil: By 2030, modernize infrastructure and rehabilitate economic activities to make them sustainable, focusing on the use of renewable resources and greater adoption of clean and environmentally appropriate technologies and industrial processes.
In view of its socio-environmental responsibility, Copel GeT develops actions in favor of inclusive and sustainable urbanization:
– Cultiva Energia Program: uses easement strips of transmission lines for community gardens, avoiding irregular constructions and increasing the safety of the system, in addition to contributing to SDG 2 – Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture; SDG 10 – Reduction of Inequalities; SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities; and SDG 17 – Partnerships and Means of Implementation. It has already benefited 214 families by 2021, with a target of 219 families by 2023.
– Disposal of Waste from Operational Units. This rate represents the total amount of waste that is diverted from final disposal to recycling, co-processing, composting and disposal.
Target 11.3 – Brazil: By 2030, increase inclusive and sustainable urbanization, enhance capacities for planning, social control and participatory, integrated and sustainable management of human settlements, in all units of the federation.
Target 11.6 – By 2030, reduce the negative environmental impact per capita of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality, municipal waste management and others.
In view of its environmental responsibility, Copel GeT has two targets:
– 20% reduction (compared to 2017) in scope 1 emissions, becoming 100% renewable by 2030;
– Diversification of the renewable sources matrix, focusing on wind generation.
Target 13.2 – Brazil: Integrate the National Policy on Climate Change (PNMC) into national policies, strategies and planning.
With a focus on sustainable development, Copel GeT has undertaken:
– The “No Net Deforestation” commitment to achieve zero net deforestation;
– The Business Commitment for Biodiversity of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS);
– Maintaining above 90% survival of managed fish in outages; and
– Maintain the average criticality of existing erosion processes in Copel’s projects below 2.0 (medium to low).
Target 15.1: By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in accordance with obligations under international agreements.
Target 15.2: By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally.
Target 15.5: Take urgent and significant action to reduce degradation of natural habitats, halt biodiversity loss and, by 2020, protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species.
