Audit

Auditing is an independent activity that aims to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of processes, risk management, control and governance of the organization.

Aligned to the best Corporate Governance practices and legal determinations, Copel has a specific structure aimed at Internal Audit works and also with the external and independent evaluation of a company specialized in audit work – External Audit.

Internal Audit

Copel’s Internal Audit aims to develop, independently and objectively, the provision of assessment and consultancy services in order to add value and contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives, through the application of a systematic and disciplined approach, contributing to the improvement of effectiveness of processes, risk management, internal controls and corporate governance, assisting the decision-making process at the various hierarchical levels of the Company.

Article 30, VIII, of the Bylaws, defines as one of the powers of the Board of Directors to approve the annual plan for internal audit work with the support of the Statutory Audit Committee. Among the main attributions of the Internal Audit are:

• To develop and execute the Annual Audit Plan of the Company, covering the Copel corporation, its business units and participations;

• Perform audit work required by the Board of Directors, Statutory Audit Committee and Company Executive Officers.

The Internal Audit at Copel achieved the International Quality Assessment Certification on 03/28/2019, granted by the Institute of Internal Auditors of Brazil (IIA Brasil), which represents the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA Global) in Brazil. International certification attests to the use of global best practices and compliance with international standards for the professional practice of internal auditing.

In line with the provisions of art. 13, item X of decree 8.945, of December 27, 2016, which regulates Law No. 13.303/2016 (Law of State-owned companies), ensuring the protection of confidential information and personal information, under the terms of Law No. 12.527/2011, to Copel’s Internal Audit publishes its Annual Activity Reports – RAINT on the company’s website on a permanent and cumulative basis, since 2017, with the objective of reporting the main activities carried out on a consolidated basis to the Company’s Senior Management.

External Audit

The Company and its wholly-owned subsidiaries have an external and independent evaluation by a company specialized in audit work – External Audit. 

The main activities of the Independent Auditor include examination of the individual and consolidated financial statements of the Company and the respective statements of income, comprehensive income, changes in equity and cash flows, as well as the corresponding explanatory notes, including the summary of the main financial statements. accounting policies.

When hiring the services of the Independent Auditor, Copel follows legal and regulatory determinations, such as the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission – CVM, Brazilian and international auditing standards, internal corporate governance standards and is supervised by the Statutory Audit Committee.

The work of the Independent Auditor aims to certify that the Company’s financial statements are free from material misstatement, regardless of whether caused by fraud or error.
