Protected Areas
Copel acknowledges and values biodiversity relevance for environmental balance maintenance, and specially life. Nowadays, it keeps under its care protected areas with native vegetation, that total more than 25,000 hectares in different biomes, representing significant regional native fauna and flora refuges.
Out of this total, 10,203 hectares are of specific areas designed almost solely to Mata Atlântica biome conservation, located in Paraná ́s Serra do Mar and included in this forest largest continuous conservation, which has one of the planet ́s highest biodiversity rates.
In order to reach the traditional communities located in conservation units and other protected areas, Copel performs surveys on alternative sources, including photovoltaic panel installation. In the other cases, Copel performs, in the planning stage, a thorough layout survey to deviate such area lines.
