Copel GeT’s power generation projects interact directly or indirectly with the ichthyofauna—that is, with the fish communities found in rivers, reservoirs, and other aquatic environments within the influence of the power plants. With the goal of reducing environmental risks and impacts, supporting species conservation, and complying with legal and environmental licensing requirements, the Ichthyofauna Program is implemented, which encompasses actions related to monitoring, management, rescue, restocking, and the prevention of impacts on aquatic fauna.
The Program includes studies and monitoring campaigns for ichthyofauna, measures to safeguard and rescue fish during plant operation and maintenance activities, preventive measures to minimize risks to hydraulic structures, as well as captive breeding and release of native species of conservation interest, such as the Iguaçu catfish, carried out by the Experimental Station for Ichthyological Studies. These activities contribute to the conservation of aquatic biodiversity, the maintenance of environmental quality in water bodies, the generation of technical and scientific knowledge, and the strengthening of the Company’s efforts in sustainability and environmental compliance.
